Denmark has the world's oldest national flag

The Regent's Flag

Denmark is Europe's oldest kingdom and its flag is Europe's oldest national flag. The flag is known as the Dannebrog, or Danish Cloth, and legend has it that this blood-red flag with a white cross appeared as a sign from heaven to King Valdemar II in 1219. The off-centred white cross (The Scandinavian Cross) became a model for other regional flags.
